Guest lecture by Artur Aroian

The Associate Professor of the ER ICA spoke about the formation of the artistic community of Poltava at the guest lecture.

On November 8, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv hosted a guest lecture by Artur Aroian, associate professor of the Department of Fine and Decorative Arts of the Educational and Research Institute of Culture and Arts of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University.

The topic of the lecture was “Formation of the artistic community of Poltava”. Teachers and students learned about Poltava artists of the 19th and early 20th centuries, the emergence and development of art education in the city.

After the introductory lecture, a documentary about the artist Ivan Miasoiedov “Garden of the Gods” was shown (directed by Artur Aroian and Olena Mushinska). Students and teachers of the Department of Fine and Decorative and Applied Arts of LTSNU took an active part in the creation of the film.

Ivan Miasoiedov is a freedom-loving artist, photographer, bodybuilder and wrestler who created the first informal art community in Poltava city. He lived in Ukraine for 30 years, the rest of his life in emigration (Germany and Liechtenstein).

In Soviet times, the name of Ivan Miasoiedov was completely erased from the history of art. Currently, it is important not only to include him in the context of the Ukrainian artistic life of the beginning of the 20th century, but also to preserve those fragments of his creative heritage that can still be found in Poltava and other Ukrainian cities.

The meeting took place within the framework of teaching the discipline of free choice of students “Modern style in European culture of the end of the XIX – beginning of the XX century”. The organizer of the meeting was Olena Liapina, associate professor of the Department of History of Central and Eastern Europe of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.
