Meeting of the research discussion group of future orientalists

On October 27, a meeting of the future orientalists’ research discussion group took place.

The leader of the group, associate professor of the Department of Oriental Languages Natalia Fedicheva, discussed the group activities in 2023-2024. First-year students were introduced to the scientific work of the Department of Oriental Languages and current research directions. Natalia Fedicheva emphasized the importance of the participation of students in the annual international scientific and practical conferences of the Department of Oriental Languages and provided examples of topics for research.

A report on the topic “Political and social transformations in the countries of the East on  the example of the People’s Republic of China, Japan and South Korea» was given by the teacher of the Department of Oriental Languages, Maryna Belyk. Oleksandra Voropaeva, a 3rd-year student majoring in language and literature (Japanese, English), gave a report on the topic “Word play in the Japanese language, as a feature of modern slang.” In her report, she emphasized the role of communication among Japanese youth and drew attention to the artistic and lexical features of slang and word play, which are features of the Japanese language. Alina Nazarenko, a 3rd-year student whose major is language and literature (Japanese, English) devoted her report to Japanese phraseological units with somatic components. She emphasized that the peculiarity of phraseological units is the constancy of using the expression in this form as a result of a habit formed over a long time.

All three reports provoked a lively discussion, in which all students who attended the meeting, took an active part, in particular Oleksandr Ptakhina, Olena Zhuykova, Halyna Nechai, Iryna Khimochka, Dmytro Gonchar, Dasha Korabel, Arseniy Bezugliy, Oleksandr Nochovny and other Oriental studies students.
