ХХІІІ All-Ukrainian radio dictation of national unity in Poltava

The staff of the structural sudivisions of the university, located in Poltava city, participated in the writing of the XXIII All-Ukrainian radio dictation of national unity.

On October 27, in the difficult conditions of today, caused by Russia’s war against Ukraine, the team of three structural subdivisions of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University located in Poltava city (Faculty of Ukrainian Philology and Journalism; Educational and Research Institute of History, International Relations and Socio-Political Sciences; Information Technology Center) celebrated the Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language.

Since 1997, this holiday has traditionally been celebrated on November 9, on the day of memory of the follower of the creators of the Slavic script, Cyril and Methodius, Reverend Nestor the Chronicler. He was a thinker, writer-hagiographer, the founder of Old Russian historiography, the first historian of Kyivan Rus, a monk of the Kyiv-Pechersk monastery.

The peculiarity of this year’s dictation was that the date of the holiday changed – Ukraine celebrated the Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language for the first time on October 27. On July 28, 2023, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi signed a decree on changing the date of the celebration – from November 9 to October 27. The postponement is connected with the transition of the Orthodox Church to the New Julian calendar, according to which the dates of non-transitional holidays were shifted 13 days earlier. So the day of memory of Nestor the Chronicler fell on a church holiday on October 27.

At 11:00 a.m., students and employees of the university, together with the whole country, participated in the writing of the ХХІІІ All-Ukrainian radio dictation of national unity. The event was held in a mixed format – online and in the audience, and everyone who wanted to participate was able to take part in it. The radio dictation was called “Roads of Ukraine”. The text was written by the poet Kateryna Kalitko, and it was read by the actor and theater director Oleksii Hnatkovskyi. The purpose of this significant national flash mob was not to test our own literacy, but to show the whole world the unity of the Ukrainian people.

Language is our national weapon, the foundation of statehood, so we sincerely congratulate everyone on the holiday. Glory to Ukraine!
