Guest lecture at the Faculty of Natural Scienecs

A guest lecture for future ecologists from a stakeholder of the Ecology educational program was held at the Faculty of Natural Scienecs.

Students and teachers of the Faculty of Natural Sciences attended a guest lecture by Oleksandr Targonskyi, director of Dobrobut Association LLC, postgraduate student of the Ukrainian Research Institute of Environmental Problems. This was the third lecture from the cycle of planned guest lectures from the stakeholder of the Ecology educational program – the Scientific Research Institution “Ukrainian Scientific Research Institute of Environmental Problems” (UKRNDIEP). The moderator of the meeting was Iryna KYRPYCHOVA, guarantor of the Master’s level Ecology educational program, Associate Professor of the Department of Landscape Gardening and Ecology.

The online lecture took place on October 17 and was devoted to the urgent topic: “Unsolved problems of solid waste management in united territorial communities.” During the lecture, important issues related to the main problems of waste management were discussed: insufficient distributed responsibility and coordination between authorities; low level of equipment for separate waste collection and further processing; the imperfection of the legal and regulatory framework governing the management of solid household waste. Waste management and responsible management is a comprehensive approach that goes beyond the simple collection and disposal of waste. It provides for their further processing and use in order to reduce the negative impact on the environment. This is an important component of sustainable development, as it allows preserving natural resources and reducing negative environmental impact.

After the speech, our guest received a large number of questions related to various aspects of waste management in territorial communities, which related to separate collection of garbage, increasing the role of ecological culture and responsible attitude to waste management. Cooperation between all stakeholders, including authorities, the public and businesses, is a key prerequisite for the successful implementation of waste management strategies.
