“Garden of the Gods”

The Associate Professor of the Department of Fine and Decorative and Applied Arts showed his film “Garden of the Gods” at the National Art Museum of Ukraine.

From September 28 to 30, the National Art Museum of Ukraine (Kyiv) hosted screenings of the documentary film “Garden of the Gods” directed by Artur Aroian and Olena Mushinska. The film, which premiered in the fall of 2021, tells the story of the Poltava artist Ivan Miasoiedov – one of the brightest representatives of symbolism and modernism in Ukrainian painting, an outstanding graphic designer, photographer and actor. He also created postage stamps for the principality of Liechtenstein, where he lived for a long time and was buried.

Over the course of three days, the film was presented with the participation of members of the film crew, an exhibition of archival materials from the museum’s funds, as well as the paintings of Miasoiedov’s student, Vsevolod Maksymovych from Poltava.

Every day, the film was preceded by art criticism discussions about the role of Miasoiedov in the Ukrainian cultural life of the beginning of the 20th century, the source base of the research and modern interpretations of his philosophy. Scientific workers of the NKU participated in the discussions, as well as Anton Usanov, curator of the Poltava Contemporary Art Center Jump (the film was created with the support of this institution).

Students and teachers of the Department of Fine and Decorative Arts took an active part in the creation of the film: Artur Aroian – Associate Professor of the Department, Director; the composer of the tape is currently a master’s student Maria Kyrychenko, the second operator is a master’s student Artem Ochnev.
