International Literacy Day

The tradition of celebrating Literacy Day was initiated by the corresponding recommendation of the World Conference of Ministers of Education on the Elimination of Illiteracy, held in Tehran in September 1965.

It was this conference that recommended declaring September 8, the date of the conference’s grand opening, as International Literacy Day, and celebrating it annually all over the world.

A person’s literacy is the key to their success, it gives them the opportunity to gain access to certain information, expand the life opportunities, overcome the negative pressure of the environment and make a conscious choice.

Literacy is the basis for further personal development, an inalienable human right and the basis for lifelong learning.

Literacy is the main indicator of the cultural and social development of the population. It is not only the ability to read and write: the ability to analyze what is read, draw one’s own conclusions, correctly use the information received in the future – this is what literacy is. It forms a person’s worldview, affects their life, habits, environment, self-perception and is the basis for acquiring new knowledge and skills.

The purpose of International Literacy Day is to remind people that literacy is an integral feature of a modern and developed society.

Being literate is cool! Literacy is the key to success, no enemy can defeat a literate nation.

Thanks to promising and educated young people, who are trained by our Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University, our state has every chance to become a successful country, because OUR EDUCATION IS A GUARANTEE OF YOUR SUCCESS, and your success is the development and success of our Ukraine.
