Ukrainian National H-index Ranking
6.9.2023
A new National H-index Ranking project was launched in Ukraine.
The researches of scientists are very important in the modern world and require recording in modern databases, primarily such as Scopus and Web of Science, which are among the first universal reference databases in the world with the ability to track scientific citations of publications. Citation is one of the main metrics in the world of scientometrics, on which the popularity, authority and significance of the author directly depends.
This year, a new National H-index Ranking project was launched in Ukraine, the implementation of which is being worked on by a group of scientists from the USA, Great Britain, Ukraine, the Netherlands and Turkey. This is an international non-commercial ranking, which was created for the purpose of transparent and unified ranking of universities, scientific organizations and institutions specializing in scientific research. The key indicator here is the Hirsch index as a well-known, popular and stable metric in the field of scientific research. The Hirsch index (h-index) is a unified indicator of scientific productivity used to evaluate the activities of scientists, scientific groups, journals, organizations and countries. It is calculated quite simply: the Hirsch index is equal to the number N if a scientist has published N scientific articles, each of which has been cited at least N times.
According to the results of the Ukrainian National H-index Ranking–2023, our university ranks 176 among about 450 educational institutions of Ukraine (https://ua.h-index.com/uk/luhansk-taras-shevchenko-national-university/scopus). In particular, Anatolii Zhuchok (h=13), Valerii Kolesnikov (h=7), Viktoriia Rubezhanska (h=7), Viktor Trynchyk (h=6) and Yurii Zhuchok ( h = 5).
It should be noted that the number of indexed publications of scientific and pedagogical workers in publications referenced in scientific and metric databases Scopus and Web of Science is one of the target indicators of our university’s activity. The Department of Algebra and System Analysis remains the leader in this area of university activity. So, this year, the total Scopus h-index of the Department of Algebra and System Analysis is 25, and the total number of citations in Scopus is 505. Thanks to these results as well, our university successfully passed the state scientific certification in mathematics for 5 years and received a qualification group B.
We sincerely thank the administration of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University for promoting the development of algebraic science at our university. We also hope for further support of the algebraic research group, which contributes to the improvement of the positions of our higher education institution both in the domestic rating and in the international scientific space.
