Official Opening of the Course “English for Professional Development” for PPO’s Officers

The university held the official opening of the training course “English for Professional Development” for employees of the Prosecutor’s Office of Ukraine.

On August 31, 2023 the official opening ceremony of the training course “English for Professional Development” for employees of the Prosecutor’s Office of Ukraine (Luhansk Oblast Prosecutor’s Office) was held. It was attended by the Rector of the University, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, Olena L. Karaman, the Head of the Luhansk Oblast Prosecutor’s Office, Honorary Worker of the Prosecutor’s Office of Ukraine, Serhii O. Vasylyna, Director of the Institute of International Education, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, Iryna V. Myhovych, students of the course (55 people) – prosecutors of the departments, heads of district prosecutor’s offices, prosecutors of the prosecutor’s office, chiefs of departments of district prosecutor’s offices and teachers of the course.

The event was solemnly opened by the Rector of the University, who emphasized the relevance of introducing the course into the structure of the educational proposal of the University, taking into account the qualitative changes in the nature of international relations of our state and the internationalization of all aspects of public life that give the English language the status of an active and productive means of ensuring the effective activities of civil servants and officials of various ranks.

It was noted that a number of regulations of the President and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine recently, including the Draft Law on the use of English in Ukraine (No.9432 dated June 28, 2023), provides for the gradual introduction of qualification requirements for proficiency in English for relevant civil service positions, the inclusion of English language study in advanced training programs for civil servants, etc., which together provides the pilot project of the University and the Institute of International Education with signs of socially significant and urgent.

The participants of the event were presented with the teaching staff of the course, acquainted with its main tasks, such as: 1) to ensure the ability of the course students to communicate in English for professional purposes (level A1-A2, B1, Common European Framework of Reference, based on Cambridge University’s English-language course “Empower”); 2) to improve the ability to use authentic sources and assess the usefulness and relevance of information on English-language websites; 3) to develop the ability to carry out oral presentation, participate in discussions on professional issues in English; 4) to teach course participants to effectively use techniques and strategies for independent work on learning a foreign language. The project is planned for a 4 months period, of which: 1) 2 months of online work with a teacher in accordance with the approved program of the course; 2) 2 months – independent fulfillment of tasks and consulting support from teachers through e-mail and the course website on the Educational Portal of SI “Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University” (http://do.luguniv.edu.ua/).
