Academic Council meeting

On August 25, a meeting of the Academic Council was held at Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University.
The following issues were on the agenda:
- about changes in the composition of the Academic Council;
- about the approval of the academic council’s work plan for the 1st semester of 2023-2024;
- about the beginning of the academic year 2023-2024;
- about the approval of changes to educational programs and curricula of the third (educational and scientific) level of higher education for the academic year 2023-2024;
- miscellaneous.
At the beginning of the meeting, the chairman of the Academic Council of the University, Vitalii Kurylo, congratulated all those present on the beginning of the new academic year and wished them fruitful work. Changes were made to the composition of the Academic Council. Olha Zabudkova was introduced as the acting academic secretary. In addition, Vitalii Semenovych introduced the work plan of the Academic Council for 2023-2024 to those present. which after discussion was approved by open vote.
Rector of the University Olena Karaman spoke about the beginning of the new academic year 2023-2024. During her speech, Olena Leonidivna singled out the regulatory documents that govern the administration of the Higher Education Institution, determined the actual addresses of the structural subdivisions of the university, approved the formats of the educational process in 2023-2024. Separately, the Rector emphasized that together with the owners of the rented premises, the university created a safe educational environment for the educational process, shelters were prepared in all three locations of the university, current repairs were made, etc.
In order to ensure a successful educational process at the university, the external and internal challenges faced by the institution on the eve of the new academic year were analyzed, priority areas of activity were determined: 1) formation of the student contingent; 2) improving the quality of personnel; 3) ensuring the quality of education; development and implementation of the concept of quality study, teaching and use of the English language at the university; 4) development of research and innovation activities; 5) activation of international activities and the process of internationalization of university education; 6) modernization of content and technologies (forms, methods, means) of social and humanitarian work, creation of effective student self-government; 7) development of the material and technical base, social infrastructure and a safe educational environment for all participants in the educational process; 8) improvement of financial and economic activities of the university.
The tasks of the university’s activities within these areas, aimed at the preservation and development of the university in the conditions of martial law and post-war reconstruction, have been formulated.
After listening to and discussing the report of the Vice-Rector for Scientific and Educational Work Anatolii Zhuchok, the Academic Council approved changes to the educational programs and curricula of the third (educational and scientific) level of higher education for the academic year 2023-2024.
Among miscellaneous, the issue of closing the educational program, initiating a petition for awards on the Day of Education Workers, forming one-time specialized academic councils for awarding the degree of Doctor of Philosophy, recommending the publication of scientific and educational-methodological works, granting and extending academic leaves were considered.
There was a lively discussion of the reorganization of the university structure, in which S. O. Bader, A. V. Bader, S. O. Vovk, I. F. Kononov, and V. V. Lesnova took part.
The Academic Council decided to liquidate the Faculty of Foreign Languages and the Faculty of Ukrainian Philology and Journalism, the Educational and Research Institute of Physics, Mathematics and Information Technologies, the Educational and Research Institute of Economics and Business, the Educational and Researcj Institute of Public Management, Administration and Postgraduate Education as of September 1, 2023.
Instead of these structural subdivisions, the Academic Council decided to create new ones: an Educational and Research Institute of Philology and Journalism, an Educational and Research Institute of Mathematics and Information Technologies, an Educational and Research Institute of Business and Management, an Educational and Research Institute of Public Administration and Postgraduate Education.
The name of the Educational and Research Institute of Commerce, Serving Technologies and Tourism was changed to the Educational and Research Institute of Technologies and Trade; the Educational and Research Institute of Physical Education and Sports was changed to the Educational and Research Institute of Health Care and Sports; the Educational and Research Institute of Culture and Arts was changed to the Educational and Research Institute of Arts; the Educational and Research Institute of History, International Relations and Socio-Political Sciences was changed to the Educational and Research Institute of Social and Humanitarian Sciences. In addition, by the decision of the Academic Council, individual departments in the university structure were reorganized.
