Participation in the event for the Independence Day of Ukraine
24.8.2023
Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University took part in the Independence Day event.
On August 24, Ukraine celebrates the Independence Day. This year, the Ukrainian people are celebrating the 32nd anniversary of the country’s independence, the history of which dates back to 1990. But the struggle for independence began long before that and continues to this day.
Because of the war, in order not to expose people to danger, the regions gave up traditional big celebrations. Therefore, this year, a small event was held for the Independence Day of our country in Taras Shevchenko Square, where Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University, together with the leadership of the Lubny community, representatives of public organizations, young people, and the public took part in the ceremonial laying of flowers at the monument of Taras Hryhorovych Shevchenko.
With a minute of silence, those present honored the memory of fallen soldiers, civilians, all patriots who gave their lives for Ukraine and its independence.
The rector of the university, Olena Karaman, congratulated everyone on the national holiday and emphasized: “For every Ukrainian, this is a day of national pride and honor, the personification of freedom, dignity and unity, especially today, when little Ukraine once again proves its freedom, independence, sovereignty, civilizational choice in Russia’s brutal war against Ukraine. However, this bloody war against the Ukrainian people, their culture and history will not bring our state to its knees. On the contrary, Ukrainians, having united into a single and strong nation, will very soon defeat the enemies and force them to retreat and never set foot on our land again!”
After short speeches by the head of the Lubny City Council and the Rector of LTSNU, students of the university and representatives of the local authorities laid flowers at the monument to the glorious Kobzar, whose name is proudly borne by the Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University.
We believe in our Victory, may the sky over Ukraine always be clear.
Happy Independence Day of Ukraine!
