Participation in a scientific event «Preparing the Next Generation of Ukrainian English Teachers:  What We Have Learned and Looking Ahead».

On July 19-20, 2023, a training module «Preparing the Next Generation of Ukrainian English Teachers: What We Have Learned and Looking Ahead» of  the educational program of professional development of higher education workers «Pre-Service English Teacher Methodology Program for Pedagogical Universities» was held in Kyiv.  It was organized by Consortium for Enhancement of Ukrainian Management Education with the support of the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine.

Kateryna Bilobrovska, Vice Dean in charge of Academic Affairs of the Faculty of Foreign Languages, Lecture of the Department of Romance and Germanic Philology and Nataliia Komlyk, Lecture of the Department of Romance and Germanic Philology, took part in this scientific event.

The conference was opened by Ihor Baluba, Head of Expert Group on Professional Pre-University and University Education, Ministry of Education and Science, who spoke about new policy priorities regarding English language education. Andriy Haidamashko,  from CEUME gave a welcome and RELO Lottie Baker, Regional English Language Officer U.S. Embassy, Kyiv, and Liliia Shylo, cultural assistant, presented about U.S. Embassy RELO resources and opportunities.

The conference brought together 48 lectures from pedagogical universities of Ukraine with the aim of discussing existing teaching models, modern approaches to the training of future English language teachers, features of the introduction of socio-emotional learning and blended learning in foreign language classes, the use of «film club» technology for interactive learning, jointly thinking through proposals for improving the training of future English teachers in Ukraine, etc. Over the course of two days, teachers gave individual presentations about new approaches and applications they have utilized over the past few years, with a focus on strategies they developed through U.S. Embassy programs.

The results of the conference:

  • modern approaches to teaching future teachers of the English language have been mastered;
  • the practical task of developing proposals for improving the training of future English language teachers was completed;
  • professional competence has been improved (methodological component).
