Meeting on the Implementation of the State Policy on Learning English at the University

The university held a meeting with the heads of structural subdivisions regarding the implementation of the state policy on learning English.

On July 3, 2023, a meeting was held regarding the institutional implementation of the state policy on learning English at the university, which was attended by the rector of the university Olena Karaman, vice-rectors for scientific and pedagogical work, heads of educational and scientific institutes, faculties, professional colleges, heads of university departments. According to the Draft Law on the Use of English in Ukraine No. 9432 dated 28.06.2023, the standardized use of the English language is provided for many areas, in particular, in the work of the civil service, units of emergency assistance to the population, while crossing the state border, in the fields of education, culture, transport, healthcare, etc. The draft law defines English as the language of international communication in Ukraine, outlines aspects of promoting the mastery of this language by citizens of Ukraine.

During the meeting, the head of the international relations office, acting director of the Institute of International Education, Iryna Myhovych presented the concept of the development of the foreign language competence of the representatives of the teaching staff of the university regarding English, which involves the introduction of intensive courses on the basis of the university, and also provided information about the currently active courses with the support of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the US Department of State, including courses: “English for Career Development”, “English for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)”, “English for Journalism”, “English for Business and Entrepreneurship”, “English for Media Literacy”, “Development and Teaching Academic Writing Courses”, “Teaching Grammar Communicatively”.

During the discussion of the content, terms and features of the courses, the meeting participants expressed a desire to deepen their knowledge of a foreign language, including professional English vocabulary.
