Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University received humanitarian aid from the University of Bath, Somerset, United Kingdom.
The State Institution “Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University” continues to implement certain areas of strategic cooperation with the University of Bath, Somerset, United Kingdom, in accordance with the framework agreement on institutional cooperation signed in 2022. According to the clauses of the agreement, during 2022 – the first half of 2023, the direction of international (credit) academic mobility of bachelor’s degree students was implemented (4 people, winter and summer semesters of 2022/2023 academic year).
The next step was the university receiving material and technical (humanitarian) aid from a foreign partner with a total weight of 500 kg. Thus, the persistent negotiations of the international offices and administrations of the two universities found their practical embodiment in 44 shipment items, represented by equipment in the field of chemical, physical and mathematical sciences (avometers, pulse generators, logic analysers, oscilloscopes, function generators, etc.). A distinctive feature of this shipment was the equipment for video and web conferences (three positions), which will contribute to the implementation of a standardised video-conference communication procedure in Lubny, Myrhorod and Poltava, Poltava region, Ukraine. Over a considerable period of time the officers of the two HEIs’ international offices did everything possible to ensure that such a specific, multi-component and fragile shipment arrived from Great Britain to Ukraine as soon as possible.
State Institution “Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University”, represented by the rector of the university, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, Olena Karaman, and the First Vice-Rector, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, Academician of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, Vitalii Kurylo, expresses sincere gratitude to our strategic partner for the assistance provided and long-term and systematic support in the struggle for the preservation of institutional identity. According to Vitali Kurylo, as quoted on the University of Bath’s official website in December 2022, “I offer my heartfelt gratitude to the University of Bath, Cormack Consultancy Group, and everyone involved in the UK-Ukraine Twinning Initiative. The war in Ukraine is inflicting immense human suffering, it is devastating people, families, communities. Its negative impact on higher education is also tremendous, as it has made many higher educational institutions to relocate, lose buildings, equipment, students, and staff. At times like these it becomes of tremendous importance to feel the support from international partners. I express my sincere gratitude and recognition to all of our colleagues from the University of Bath whose active position and involvement served the cause of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University’s survival, stabilizing and developing” (https://www.bath.ac.uk/announcements/bath-signs-twinning-agreement-with-luhansk-taras-shevchenko-national-university-in-ukraine/).
