Meeting with master’s students in a round-table session

The Department of Oriental Languages held a meeting of scientific advisers and master’s students in a round-table session

On June 1, 2023, at the Department of Oriental Languages, students of the second (master’s) level of higher education of the educational program “Language and Literature (Chinese)” met with their academic supervisors in a round-table session online on the Zoom platform.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the main issues of writing scientific researches, aspects of writing master’s thesis. Special attention was paid to academic integrity and the principles of checking scientific papers for plagiarism. Each master’s student highlighted the state of readiness of the work, the collected material and processed sources.

During the meeting, we discussed the current problems of Oriental studies, namely jargon and slang of the Chinese language in the Internet space; problems of translation of abbreviations and words formed by contraction; features of neologisms and borrowed terminology in Chinese journalistic style texts; the role of characters in Chinese word formation; the sociocultural aspect of the use and functioning of dialectisms in Mandarin Chinese.

In general, the meeting took place in a positive atmosphere, everyone had the opportunity to ask questions and express opinions, share ideas. The results of the work of all master’s students received a positive assessment.
