The meeting of the FUPJ with the head of the NUJU Serhii Tomilenko

A meeting was held between teachers and students of the Faculty of Ukrainian Philology and Journalism of LTSNU with the head of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine Serhii Tomilenko.

On May 31, 2023, a meeting of teachers and students of the Faculty of Ukrainian Philology and Journalism of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University with Serhii Tomilenko, head of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine, Honored Journalist of Ukraine, took place at the Poltava University of Economics and Trade. The event was timed to the Journalist’s Day of Ukraine, a holiday traditionally celebrated on June 6.

The meeting was attended by Viktor Kikot, a member of the board of the public organization “Poltava Regional Organization of the Union of Journalists of Ukraine” and Vitalii Skobelskyi, deputy editor of the newspaper “Poltava Visnyk”.

The event was organized by the joint efforts of the head of the NUJU, Serhii Tomilenko, Serhii Mamichenko, Ph.D., assistant of the Department of Pedagogy, and Artem Halych, Ph.D., Professor, Dean of the Faculty of Ukrainian Philology and Journalism, who introduced the distinguished guest.

At the beginning of the conversation, Mr. Serhii spoke about the activities and specifics of the functioning of the NUJU in wartime conditions; support for print media in the de-occupied and front-line territories; dedication to the profession of a journalist, high responsibility to the audience, the need to observe journalistic ethics, etc.

The speaker answered the questions related to the conditions and procedure for admission to membership of the NUJU; specifics of a Ukrainian journalist’s work abroad; admission of applicants to specialty 061 “Journalism”; initiation and possible teaching of a course on “military journalism” by theorists and practitioners of the department, etc.

The highlight of the meeting was the bulletproof vest and military helmet, which the journalists brought with them in order to show the degree of protection of media workers. There were many willing to wear these attributes.

At the end of the event, the media person presented newspapers, books on journalism and a power bank. Letters of thanks were also handed over to the rectors of Poltava and Luhansk universities – Oleksii Nestula and Olena Karaman; Certificates of honor were presented to teachers and students, namely: Olga Kutsevska and Oksana Korchaginia – Candidates of Sciences in Social Communications, Associate Professors of the Department of Journalism and Publishing; Angela Onishchenko and Nataliia Kiiashko – students majoring in 061 Journalism.

The meeting was extremely interesting and productive. Students note that the dialogue with interesting personalities provides an opportunity to acquire unique practical experience and systematize theoretical knowledge, learn about the world and shape oneself as a successful individual.

We thank Serhii Tomilenko and his team for the meaningful conversation and motivation of our students majoring in journalism and philology.
