The department operates within the structure of the Foreign Languages Department. It was created in 2014 by merging of the Department of World Literature and the Department of Russian linguistics and communicative technologies, the oldest departments of the University.


Learning activity

Department of World Literature and Russian linguistics assists in the preparation of professionals in the following directions and specialties:

During the study, students of educational qualification of “Bachelor” acquire knowledge of the following basic subjects:

  • The Genre Modifications in Modern American Literature

  • The Historical Grammar and the History of Language
  • The Methodology of Russian Language Teaching
  • The Methodology of Foreign Literature Teaching and other subjects.

Following courses contribute to deepening students’ philological knowledge:

  •  The history of literary criticism

Postgraduates in specialty “Language and Literature (Russian)” study:

  • Russian language as a system. Style. Text. Discourse.

Russian literature in the context of modern conceptions of study of literature

  • Modern pedagogical technologies in teaching philological disciplines at universities
  • Current exploratory episteme in the modern linguistic and literary studies
  • Imagology and other disciplines.


Teaching staff

In the Department of World Literature and Russian Linguistics there are: 1 doctor of philological sciences, 2 candidates of philological sciences, 2 candidates of pedagogical sciences, 1 senior teacher. 1 teacher has the title of Professor; four teachers have the academic rank of associate professor.

The department prepares highly qualified professionals whose level of professional competence corresponds to the international standards of philological education. Particular emphasis in the learning process is on the deep professional and practical training of students, that allows to deepen their knowledge by teaching well-chosen courses, which are defined according to the urgent needs of modern society in the sphere of philological education

The high level of practical training is provided by pedagogical practice in secondary schools and institutions of I-IV accreditation levels.

Necessary teaching materials that provide educational process: curricula, working programs of the disciplines of curriculum, texts of lectures, plans of practical lessons, teaching software for independent work, term papers and theses were created by lecturers of the department of World Literature and Russian Linguistics. 


Research activity

The scientific research of the department is an integral part of scientific research of university and aims at forming a strategy of scientific activity in the field of linguistics and literary studies; of the investigation of modern literary and language processes and phenomena, as well as the practical application of scientific achievements in educational activity.

In order to intensify the scientific research of students the annual scientific readings, presentations of scientific achievements and projects are held by the teaching stuff of the department. Top students’ works are sent to the Ukrainian competitions of student papers. Reports that received the highest rating are recommended for publication in the university collections of scientific papers of students and graduate students, and young scientists – for admission to graduate school

The department provides scientific ties with leading scientific centers and universities of Ukraine such as the Department of Ukrainian and World Literature of Kryvyi Rih National University; the Department of World Literature of Kharkiv National University by G.S. Skovoroda; the Department of Foreign Literature and Theory of Literature and the Department of General Linguistics and Slavic Studies of Berdyansk State University; Lanzhou University of Technology (China); the Department of Russian and French language of Západocesky University. Pilsen (Czech Republic) and others.
