World Day for Safety and Health at Work
On April 28, Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University had joined the celebration of the World Day for Safety and Health at Work.
Every year on April 28, in accordance with the Decree of the President of Ukraine dated 18.08.2006, our country celebrates the Day for Safety and Health at Work. The first celebration took place in 2003, but back in 1989, American and Canadian workers celebrated Memorial Day to honor those killed in the workplace. Since then, similar events have been organized all over the world. Over time, this day has united everyone who strives to make a person’s work safer for his health and life. Leaders of large companies, industrial giants, public organizations, etc. usually take part in official events dedicated to this holiday.
Since becoming a global crisis by early 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound impact on all areas of life. The pandemic has affected almost every aspect of the world of work, from the risk of transmission of the virus in the workplace to the risks to safety and health at work resulting from measures taken to mitigate the spread of the virus. The shift towards new forms of work organization, in particular the large-scale shift to teleworking, for example, has created many opportunities for workers, but has raised potential safety and health risks at work, in particular psychosocial risks and risks of violence.
This year’s World Day for Safety and Health at Work, dedicated to strategies for strengthening national safety and health systems, aims to build resilience and confront current and future crises, building on lessons learned and experiences in the world of work.
The International Labor Organization has set the slogan for the Labor Protection Day 2021 – “Anticipate, Prepare and Respond to Crises – Invest Now in Resilient Occupational Safety and Health”.
We call on everyone to join the celebration of the World Day for Safety and Health at Work and provide a wide information campaign to protect and preserve the life and health of workers.
