Competition of expressive reading of Shevchenko’s poems

A traditional competition of expressive reading of Shevchenko’s poems was held at Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University.

The event took place on March 11 in the reading room of the university’s scientific library. This competition continued the program of events of the traditional Shevchenko Week.

The competition was attended by students of the Educational and Research Institute of Pedagogy and Psychology, the Educational and Research Institute of Commerce, Serving Technologies and Tourism, the Faculty of Ukrainian Philology and Social Communications, Starobilsk Humanitarian and Pedagogical College of LTSNU,  College of LTSNU.

Contestants read verses of the Great Kobzar in 2 stages. At the 1st stage, the participants of the event presented a pre-prepared expressive recitation by heart of Taras Shevchenko’s poetry chosen by themselves. At the 2nd stage they expressively read a poem proposed by the competition committee.

The competition was evaluated by a competent jury, which included the Dean of the Faculty of Ukrainian Philology and Social Communications Tetiana Pinchuk, Deputy Director for Social and Humanitarian Work of the Educational and Research Institute of Commerce, Serving Technologies and Tourism Mykhailo Chumak, Associate Professor of the Department of Ukrainian Philology and General Linguistics Nadiia Bezgodova, teacher of the College of LTSNU Natalia Klimenko, winner of this competition in 2019 – 2nd year student of the Faculty of Ukrainian Philology and Social Communications Nina Soroka and 4th-year student of the Faculty of Ukrainian Philology and Social Communications Kateryna Sukharevskova.

16 participants showed the ability to expressively read the works of Kobzar, intonationally convey the author’s intention, and demonstrated acting. Talented youth once again proved that the work of Taras Shevchenko was and remains an inexhaustible treasury of folk wisdom. He is called our prophet and symbol, the Great Kobzar and the Ukrainian genius. His talent is limitless and multifaceted, and it is now fashionable to call the path to immortality the path of success.

Those present not only felt the pleasure of communicating with the immortal word of Taras Shevchenko, but also honored the memory of the glorious son of the Ukrainian people with his poems.

Winners are distributed as follows:

I place – Yana Panchenko, 1st year student of the Faculty of Ukrainian Philology and Social Communications;

The poetry sounded during the contest proved once again that for the younger generation, Ukrainian Taras Shevchenko is an adviser and guide in this rapidly changing world. And although they were written almost two centuries ago, the problems that Kobzar raised in his works are still relevant today.
